All Good Things Must Come To An End

Cover created by Aı. I hate to say this, but I think we are saying goodbye to this course. The Current Issues class has generally been one where I learned a lot and had a great time. Let's dive into the details about this! One of the biggest strengths of this course was that it taught me more about technology than I had ever learned before. In a short amount of time, I gained a lot of useful knowledge about websites and techniques. When it comes to weaknesses, I can say that all the projects being required to be done as group work was a challenge. Dividing the tasks equally, dealing with miscommunication, and the fact that not everyone contributed equally were some of the weaknesses of group assignments. The easiest thing about this course was that our teacher was very knowledgeable about her area of interest and provided plenty of resources and examples for the assignments we needed to complete. As for the challenges, we had to learn how to use certain websites before designing ...

AI INTEGRATED TEACHING MATERIAL!

Cover generated by Al. Hello everyone! We are slowly approaching the end of our term. I'm here to talk to you about our final project!  In this project, we were tasked with creating a material for high school preparatory students using AI. The goal of the material was to encourage students to learn by utilizing AI. The moment my friend Perihan and I heard the term artificial intelligence, we thought of one thing: the future. We decided to combine the topic of the future with "future tense" and began working on our material. In this material, students use OpenAI , which is incredibly popular today, to visualize their future dreams, who they want to become, and the life they aspire to have. This activity not only helps them reinforce the future tense but also inspires them to reflect on their dream life and feel even more motivated. The first thing we asked our students to do was to make assumptions about an AI-generated image provided by the teacher. We wanted them to ...

AR Integrated Teaching Material

Hello again everyone! I’m back to remind you to reapply your sunscreen and to introduce a brand new project. I hope you’ve missed me, shall we get started?    This new project was created with my friends Perihan Bozdağ , Hayrunnisa Azbay , and Eda Karaca . Our topic was AR (Augmented Reality). So, what is augmented reality? Augmented Reality is a technology that integrates digital information into the real world. Let’s remember the times when virtual reality headsets or the Pokemon Go game were popular. It made us feel like we were living in a virtual world, didn’t it? My friends and I chose to introduce a country, and that country was France. Thanks to the 360-degree videos we found on YouTube, we allowed our audience to experience the Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame Cathedral, the Louvre Museum, and Paris Fashion Week. While preparing this project, we used the Canva app because it offers plenty of components, especially for creating poster-style docume...

FLIPPED CLASSROOM!

Resim
Hello everyone! I hope you've missed me. I’m here with a new project, let's check it out together! WHAT IS FLIPPED CLASSROOM APPROACH?           In a flipped classroom, students learn at home through videos or readings, then use class time for interactive activities like discussions and group work. Teachers guide and support students instead of just lecturing. This approach encourages active engagement and helps students take control of their learning.     This method helps students take control of their learning. It can reduce anxiety since everyone has the same opportunity to prepare before class. Plus, the collaborative activities allow for deeper understanding and connection with peers.    The disadvantages of this approach can be access issues, over-reliance on technology and maybe less face-to-face interaction among the students. THIS WEEK'S TASK    In this week's Current Issues in Teaching ...

CORPUS!

Hello everyone! I hope your midterm exams went well and that you’ve had a chance to relax!            I’m very excited to share with you my first experience using a corpus in today’s blog post! For our "Current Issues in Teaching" course, my friends Perihan Bozdağ ,  Eda Karaca ,  and I prepared corpus-assisted activities      It was a task that we had fun with as a group but also found a bit challenging.  Our task was to create a teaching material and a lesson plan using corpus data, focusing on the grammar topic  “for/since”  for high school students. Also, our plan is based on the ASSURE model for EFL learners enrolled in a high school in Turkey.        While designing this material, we tried to choose vibrant and engaging colors to make the activity fun and encouraging for learning. We also made sure to include activities that allow for both individual and group work. For...
