FLIPPED CLASSROOM!

Hello everyone! I hope you've missed me. I’m here with a new project, let's check it out together!

WHAT IS FLIPPED CLASSROOM APPROACH?

In a flipped classroom, students learn at home through videos or readings, then use class time for interactive activities like discussions and group work. Teachers guide and support students instead of just lecturing. This approach encourages active engagement and helps students take control of their learning.

This method helps students take control of their learning. It can reduce anxiety since everyone has the same opportunity to prepare before class. Plus, the collaborative activities allow for deeper understanding and connection with peers.

The disadvantages of this approach can be access issues, over-reliance on technology and maybe less face-to-face interaction among the students.

THIS WEEK'S TASK

In this week's Current Issues in Teaching class, our task was to create a lesson video based on the "Flipped Classroom" approach. Some groups could explain vocabulary, while others focused on grammar rules. The most important thing we needed to do was to make sure every student in the group recorded their voice. Our teacher shared video-making programs with us to make the job easier, so we picked one and got to work. Let’s take a look at what we came up with!

OUR WORK

First, my groupmates Perihan Bozdağ, Eda Karaca, and I chose "Comparative Adjectives" as our topic. Finding visuals related to adjectives made explaining the lesson much easier. While preparing our video, we used a program called "Animaker." The biggest problem we encountered with this program was that, once we finished our video project, it asked us to pay to save it. Besides that, while editing the video, the program kept giving errors, which made the process difficult and took longer than expected. We solved this issue by using the screen recording feature to save the video. As for the constant errors, the only thing we could do was wait for the computer to relax for a bit or close the application. Thankfully, the program saves your most recent edits automatically. While Perihan wrote the script for the video, Eda created the quiz we prepared for you. As for me, I did the video editing!

The program we used, Animaker, is a cloud-based animation software that allows users to create animated videos easily, even without prior animation experience. In our video, you can see the animated versions of me and my two friends. Although we were sometimes worried while working on it, we had a lot of fun and definitely improved our editing skills.
